Wedding Bouquet Shapes

Shapes of Bridal Bouquets

So much variety, so many decisions…Just remember that when you are considering your bridal bouquet, you want the bouquet to complement you and not overwhelm you.  There are no rules, to select the shape that speaks to you.  Here are a few of the shapes to consider for your wedding bouquet.

NOSEGAY / ROUND – Here the stems are gathered tightly together and then wrapped with lace or ribbon.  In Victorian times, when nosegays were popular, they were usually made of one or two types of flowers with no greenery as filler.  Nosegays are a popular choice of today’s bride.  Roses or calla lilies are used today, but many other flowers are suitable. These bouquets are good for brides who want a more formal look.

CASCADE BOUQUET – Another formal shape, the cascading bouquet is shaped like a waterfall, with flowers spilling out the front of the bouquet.

HAND-TIED – Round bouquet, casual, and one that looks like it is more natural and hand- picked.  These bouquets are good for brides who want a more casual look.

BIEDERMEIR BOUQUET – Two tight circles of flowers are placed in a bouquet holder or wire cage to form this formal design.  While the popular choice is made of two colors of roses, two types of flowers with contrasting shapes and colors work very well.

PRESENTATION BOUQUET OR PAGENT BOUQUET – This is the elegant long-stemmed bouquet similar to what performers are presented at the end of a performance.  The stems are secured with ribbon for a more formal look or twine for an outdoor look.

CRESCENT BOUQUET – This is a quarter moon shape, with flowers falling on each side.

BALLERINA BOUQUET – A rounded bouquet with lots of tulle or lace tucked in with the flowers.

POMANDER BOUQUET – This bouquet is formed around a ball-shaped base and suspended from looped ribbon or a string of pearls.  It can not only be carried by the bride, but it is good for bridesmaid or flower girls or even hung from pews.
