Wedding Invitations – Paper vs Evites

E-Invitations vs Mailed Invitations

Not sure what type of invitations you want to send out for your wedding?  Take a look at some of the pros and cons on the different types of invitations.

E-Invitations

PROS

  • Easy to order and send
  • Inexpensive
  • Practical
  • Green/eco-conscious
  • Website helps track RSVPs
  • Can be beautiful and have personal style
  • Can link to maps
  • No need to buy stamps

CONS

  • Invitations in paper convey importance of the event while e-invitations are not as formal
  • Can end up in SPAM box
  • Many elderly people do not use internet (but many e-invitation sites will also supply paper invitations for the guests that do not use internet)

I actually used Paperless Post for my wedding invitations.  They were easy to customize in the colors and designs that matched our wedding colors.  I found it simple and easy to use. I was also able to add an information card that included the details of the day, hotel information, and where we were registered.

You can choose cards that are free to send, or cost 1-2 coins.  You can also select cards by color and shape, change the font, and envelope liner.

The guest will receive an email that will look like the one below:

They will then click on the above link and it will take them to this page (click here)

The above example is for the free card.  You just need to pay 1 coin for each envelope and 1 coin for the envelope liner.  For 60 coins, the cost was $14.  This is much less than a paper invitation, stamps, and envelopes.  Just watch because the extra coins do add up.

Mailed Invitations

PROS

  • Sets the tone/mood for this event
  • Is tangible memento of this special occasion – can be put into a scrap book
  • Recommended by etiquette books

CONS

Expensive

  • Some invitations can take up to two or three months for delivery
  • Many printing styles have limited selection of paper and ink colors
  • End up in the wastebasket

You can also cut costs on paper invitations by making post card size cards at places like Vista Print. Your extra information card can be the size of a business card or you could print and cut black and white cards at Kinkos. I also had a friend use a Costco holiday card template as her wedding invitation.  Another idea is to shop around for invitations on online sites or local print shops.
