Spend time with the one you love

You are getting married!  This is a very exciting time. But, as one bride told me, it is bonding experience. It is also a time when you two will be making decisions that will effect your future together – there might be a little tension, a few disagreements, some laughs, and some give and take.  Take these next few months to learn more about each other. You are now starting to make decisions for the TWO of you, as a new family.  Make some time and spend that time with the one you love.

As you get ready for your wedding ceremony take some time for the two of you as a couple.

  • Love Languages – Find out your Love Languages by taking this quiz  http://www.5lovelanguages.com/profile/.  Taking a quiz to find out about love might sound a little funny, but the Love Languages has really helped me to learn how my husband shows love. At the same time, I learned how I show love.
  • Remember you are marrying your best friend – When times are getting tough remember your fiancé is your best friend!  When you get in arguments with your best friend you say sorry, or when your best friend is having a bad day you are there for them.  Your fiancé is going to be your husband or wife, the person that is going to be there for you everyday.
  • Come up with a prayer or quote that represents what you want your life together to be like. A special saying like, “When I saw you I fell in love, and you smiled because you knew” by William Shakespeare, or maybe a line from a song that has meaning for you two, or a poem like “You are the poem I never knew how to write and this life is the story I have always wanted to tell” Tyler Khott Gregson” , or Bible verse about love or life.
  • Take some personal time to reflect – Spend some time with yourself and really reflect on the one you are going to marry. Ask questions like:
    • What does marriage mean to you?
    • What strengths do you two have as a couple?
    • How has your fiancé made you a better person?
    • What makes you laugh about your fiancé?
  • Go on a date – Going out on dates is a very important thing to continue to do when you are married. During the busy wedding planning time, you might have forgotten about going on a date with your fiancé. Right after you read this, talk to your fiancé and them out on a date!  Plan something special or go to one of your favorite places to eat.  On the date spend time not talking wedding talk – just take the time for the two of you.  Make a pact to continue to have dates after you are married. Because, even though you will be married, you still should go on dates.
  • Make sure to spend time with the one you love and make time for them – Show your fiancé they are special and spend time with them.  Maybe it is a quick cup of coffee in the morning before you go off to work, or maybe you dropped off lunch at their work, or even a little note in their bag to put a smile on their face.
