Last Minute Wedding Planning Tips

Last Minute Wedding Planning Tips

Over the years I’ve been asked to plan larger weddings in about 2 weeks notice.  These tips might help couples who are thinking of doing this.

  • The date – Check with close family and friends to make sure they can make your date.  Before booking your date, make sure the reception location and ceremony venue are both available.
  • Understand some guests might not be able to make it – If you are planning a wedding in 2 weeks understand that some guests might not be able to make it at the last minute. The good thing is that your guest list will be small and the people who really want to celebrate your special day will make an extra effort to be there for your wedding.
  • Buy a dress off the rack or do a lot of online shopping – Do not buy a dress that has to get altered.  A rush alteration could be expensive or the alteration might be wrong and you would not have time to get it fixed.
  • Don’t over think things – Getting married in a few weeks can be perfect since you don’t have to have time to stress out!  Sometimes having a wedding 1 year out creates more pressure.  By having a quick wedding you don’t have to worry about the extra details that probably don’t really matter.
  • Discounts – by planning a last minute wedding there might be some discounts available.  For our packages, we might throw in extra decorations or other things since the wedding is being planned at the last minute.  Or maybe we have a wedding at that location and can save you some money by already having decorations set up.  For the venues, if it is a slow season they might also discount the room fees for last minute weddings.
  • Still have fun with the planning- Involve your fiancé in the planning part by going shopping for his outfit and rings, or go register for the fun of it (you might be surprised if you get some gifts!), or make your own wedding invitations.  Still make it feel like you planned for your wedding.
  • Pamper yourself – Just because you are getting married in 2 weeks doesn’t mean you can’t take the time for a mani pedi or hire a professional hair and make up gal to get your glammed up.
  • You won’t be stressed out – This is a great thing to keep in mind when planning a last minute wedding!  If you only have a few weeks to plan you won’t be staying up late pinning pins to your board of your wish list, must haves.  You won’t have to hear from friends and family about their option about everything that you are doing that they don’t like.  You can really focus on the wedding.  Like I always tell couples – Why wait!!
