Writing your own vows

This past Tuesday I had the pleasure of marrying a couple who had a second chance a love.  Both of their spouses had passed away and through Facebook these two had reconnected.  Their first date was in Pismo so it was perfect for them to elope there.  When talking to the couple, the bride was not wanting to write their own vows, but right before the ceremony she pulled out a piece of paper where she had written some vows.  It touched my heart when the tears began to flow as she read the vows to her husband to be.

A wedding is a special time. The words that are said are the foundation for years to come.  When planning your wedding, consider writing your own vows.  It could be something as simple as what your responsibilities are as a spouse – I promise to love you, to respect you, to make you laugh, to watch football with you even though it is not my favorite!  Or it could be a poem that you came across – you brought me sunshine when I only saw rain, you bought me laughter when I only saw pain.  Or you could be something that is not written down that you decide to say the day, on the spot.

If speaking in front of people isn’t something you are good at, you could always write vows and then have the minister speak them at ceremony.
