Wedding Invitation Wording

Wedding Invitation Wording – The way wedding invitations are worded have changed a lot over the years!

I just came across this great website, Invitation Consultants  that had a TON of ways to word a wedding invite.  Where was this information when I was crafting mine?!?!

I think that it is ok to have a fun, informal wedding invitation.  The days of Mr. and Mrs. Cook invite you to share in the wedding of their daughter Emily Cook to Mr. Robert James is a little too formal for me.

I like “Please join in celebrating the marriage of” and then including the couple’s name.

I also like, “Together with their families” as a way to start the invitation.

One of my favorites was, “Charles, Nicole and Mark are pleased to announce the marriage of their mother Phyllis Rose Wilson to Josh Gilligan.”  I love how the couple included their children in this invitation.

The basics that should be included in the wedding invitation are:

  • A basic line announcing the marriage is taking place
  • The couple’s name who is getting married
  • The date of the ceremony
  • The time of the ceremony
  • Where the ceremony is taking place
  • If a reception is happening afterwards

So the wedding invitation is just one piece of paper that needs to be included in the envelope.

Other things that need to be included are:

  • The details or etc. card – this included the exact address of the ceremony and reception, information about hotel room blocks, registration information, or other details that the guests need to know about
  • An RSVP card – this is the card that is sent back to the bride. It should include an envelope that has a stamp on it addressed to the bride. This card should have a date the guests need to respond by. If you are serving a plated dinner, the RSVP card should have the dinner choices on it for the guests to select.  If you didn’t want to have an envelope and card you could do an RSVP post card. But, the post card needs to have a stamp on it and be addressed to the bride.

Wedding invitation wording can be tricky so always have someone proof read the invitations for you before you have them printed.
