Party Planning

My brain has been in the party planning mode for the last month or so.  I have had to switch gears a little and do party planning for my little one’s 1st birthday!  It is such an exciting time and I want to have all the extra details for her party.

For all party planning there are some tips to remember.

  1.  Keep a to do list – This is so important since it has all the things you need to do on it. At first I started to have about 4 lists with what to do.  When I frantically lost one list I decided to have one main list to work off of.
  2. Leave it to the experts –  At first I thought it would be fun to make a cake for my little one’s cake smash – but after deciding that I really do not bake (as I hate to measure things out) that it would probably be better to go to Albertson’s and have them make the cake for me. Plus, they are way better at decorating. For weddings, it is best to leave the planning, photography and flowers to the professions over here at Coastal California Weddings.  Just don’t ask me to bake your cake!!
  3. Have 3-4 main things you want to do for decorations – After hours on Pinterest (one of my weaknesses) I had pinned over 40 ideas of decorations and cute things to do for the party.  After a friend reminded me that this party is mostly for me since the little one doesn’t know it is her party, I decide to keep it simple and focus on a few decoration ideas.  #1 – making the cake topper, #2 doing a cake smash backdrop, #3 making tissue paper flowers, #4 doing the table decorations.  By only picking 3-4 things to do I am not going crazy driving all over town looking for craft items or spending hours on Etsy or Martha Stewart trying to find patterns for crape paper flowers and happy birthday hats in light pink.
  4. Don’t be afraid to ask for help – This can sometimes be difficult, but if people ask for help they normally want to help.  My sister and mom were making the happy birthday banner and helped to cut the strips for her cake smash decorations.  By having other people help it makes them feel like they are part of the special day, while helping with your stress level.
  5. Keep the guest list manageable – This tip is one of my favorite for weddings and for parties. We could have gone crazy with inviting all the neighbors, distant relatives, kids in the play groups, and others in your life.  The people who should be invited are the ones you actually take the time to check in on you, see how you are doing, that email, text, or call you – the people who really mean something in your lives!  Yes, people are probably going to be offended by not being invited, but you can’t please everyone.
  6. Make the guests feel special – Guests take the time to come to your party and most likely bring a present too. Take the time to make your guests feel welcomed.  At a wedding this past week I was so impressed by the bride taking the time to go around and thank each guests and ask for a picture with them.  At our little one’s party I am having photos printed with each guest when they came to visit our baby when she was first born. These memories will hopefully make the guests feel special.

Well now it is time to do a little crafting for the party!! Happy party planning!!
